Galway Bay FM newsroom - The OPW Minister has given a commitment that priority will be given to a major flood defence project for Galway City.
It follows an emergency meeting being held this morning between Mayor of Galway Pearce Flannery and Minister Kevin Boxer Moran at Galway Docks.
It's after severe flooding was experienced across the city and at Salthill overnight as Storm Eleanor swept across the county.
Galway City Council says all available crews are out on clean up operations following what it describes as 'unprecedented' conditions.
Mayor Flannery is now touring areas affected by the flooding with Minister Moran following a meeting shortly after 7.30 this morning.
Mayor Flannery says a commitment has been given that the Government will make flood defences in Galway City a priority.
