The INMO nurses union says conditions are now 'beyond challenging' for staff at UHG as the hospital is the second most overcrowded nationwide today.
51 patients are waiting on trolleys or along wards at the facility.
The INMO says the situation is very serious particularly on ward areas where there are also patients on trolleys, yet no additional staffing.
It's understood 1,317 funded nursing and midwifery posts are left vacant in Ireland’s acute hospitals due to a recruitment pause.
