The bank says 101 branches nationwide will be closing their doors due to a big reduction in footfall over the past ten days.

However, 161 locations will remain open - including a number in Galway.

Bank of Ireland says the move will allow staff from closed branches to support the larger branches in managing the increased volume of customers requiring Covid-19 support.

In the county, branches will remain open in Ballinasloe, Clifden, Loughrea, Tuam, Gort, Portumna, and Oranmore.

While in the city, services will also be available at Eyre Square, Mervue Industrial Estate and Salthill.

Bank of Ireland is advising that normal hours and services will continue at all branches that remain open.

It's reminding customers that branches will also continue offering priority services for the over 65's and carers between 10am and 11am, Monday to Friday.
