Galway Bay fm newsroom - NUI Galway is to host an online symposium tomorrow (June 30) to discuss issues facing clinical trials during the COVID 19 pandemic.
The event is led by the Health Research Board - Trials Methodology Research Network based in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at NUIG, in collaboration with University College Dublin and the University of Aberdeen.
Due to the pandemic, many non-COVID-19 clinical trials have paused activity and many new clinical trials addressing new treatments for COVID-19, including vaccinations, have commenced globally.
Ireland is one of the many global sites currently recruiting patients to COVID-19 clinical trials.
The two day online symposium which gets underway tomorrow will focus on the challenges of such trails in a pandemic and discuss how to embrace flexibility and ensure integrity.
Topics include shared experiences in conducting trials in a pandemic, current knowledge needs for COVID-19 trials and post-pandemic era lessons for the future of trial research.
The event is funded by the Health Research Board.
