Galway Bay fm newsroom - Scientists at NUIG have made a major breakthrough in their research which could enable longer lasting and better functioning of devices such as pacemakers.

The discovery in soft robotics could help patients requiring breast implants, pacemakers and, drug and cell delivery devices.

The study was co-produced with academics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Science Foundation Ireland research centre.

Foreign body responses can impair device function and the tiny soft robotic device sets out to modify the body's response to implanted devices.
