Galway Bay fm newsroom - The President of NUI Galway says funding of 15-million euro for the renovation of the university's library will transform learning experiences for students.
The funding will see a complete transformation of the James Hardiman Library into a state-of-the-art 'library of the future'.
The project - which aims to create a major interactive learning facility - will be the first of its kind in the Irish university sector.
It's been allocated under the Higher Education Strategic Infrastructure Fund and is part of a national pot worth €100m being shared by five colleges - NUI Galway, Maynooth University, UCC, UCD and IT Sligo.
NUI Galway's President, Professor Ciarán O' hÓgartaigh says renewing education for modern times demands new types of supporting spaces.
He adds the new library will allow deeper forms of engagement and new connections between teaching, learning, research and scholarship.
