Galway Bay fm newsroom - Plans for a major student accommodation development on NUI Galway lands at Dangan, have been lodged with an Bord Pleanala.
The plans include the creation of four blocks- ranging from four to eight storeys in heights - comprising of over 670 bed spaces.
An application for a student accommodation development at Dangan was lodged last evening by NUI Galway officials.
Under new legislation, planning applications for large housing developments of more than 200 student bed spaces can bypass the local authority and go straight to An Bord Pleanala.
The units will comprise of 85 six-bed en suite units, 4 five-bed en suite units and 36 four-bed en suite units, with communal living areas in each unit.
Plans will also include further communal living areas and facilities, multi-purpose spaces, offices and reception space.
Proposals include changes to NUI Galway's internal road network, with the inclusion of an access road and drop off/pick up area and the development of footpath and cycle links.
Submissions and observations must be made to An Bord Pleanála before April 3rd.
