Galway Bay fm newsroom - A new medical study lead by NUI Galway has found mortality rates for women with certain acute lung injuries are significantly higher than in men.

The LUNG SAFE international study examined the management and outcomes of those diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.

ARDS is a condition that results from damage to the lungs from trauma, sepsis or pneumonia.

While there is no direct treatment for this condition, health care professionals focus on supporting lung function with artificial ventilation.
