Galway Bay fm newsroom - Gardaí are investigating an incident of racial abuse which took place at NUI Galway yesterday.
The university contacted Gardaí for assistance over the incident - after a video circulated on social media showing a man shouting racist abuse at a woman on the Galway City campus.
The man repeatedly used offensive language about the colour of the woman's skin and continued to tell her to 'go back to her own country'.
In response, the victim told her abuser she was born and raised in Ireland.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, NUI Galway said respect and openness are its core values and as a University of Sanctuary, it finds any incidence of racism abhorrent.
It continued to state that 'Black Lives Matter'.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Gardaí stated that An Garda Síochána takes hate crime very seriously.
