Galway Bay fm newsroom:
A group of NUI Galway astronomers have taken part in a new research project to measure the diameter of stars.
The Galway based researchers are part of an international team using the VERITAS telescope array in Arizona to measure brief flashes of visible light produced from far away stars.
The study has also measured the diameter of two stars by calculating the shadows cast on the Earth when an asteroid passes between the planet and the star in question.
