Galway Bay fm newsroom - A retired paediatrician and a novelist are among the recipients of this year's NUI Galway Alumni Awards.
The awards recognise individual excellence and achievements among the university's graduates worldwide.
The award for Arts, Literature and Celtic Studies goes to Irish novelist and short story writer, Mike McCormack.
The alumni award for Business and Commerce will be presented to the CEO of Bord Bia, Tara McCarthy.
Dr. Tom Courtney, a corporate partner in Arthur Cox, receives the award for Law, Public Policy and Government.
The alumni award for Engineering, Science and Technology goes to Anne Marie Farrell, the Head of Behavioural Economics Research Global SMB Marketing at Google.
This year the alumni award for Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences goes to retired consultant paediatrician, Dr. Eileen Naughten.
There is a joint alumni award for Contribution to Sport which goes to paralympic medal winner and NUIG lecturer, Dr. Eoghan Clifford and paralympic athlete, Deirdre Mongan.
The awards will be presented at a gala banquet at NUIG next month.
