Galway Bay fm newsroom - An NUI Galway alumna is the first female physician to be appointed to Ireland's oldest professorship.

Rose Anne Kenny, who studied medicine at NUIG, will become the Regius Professor of Physic at Trinity College Dublin.

It is the oldest professorship in Ireland and one of the oldest Medical Professorships in Europe.

Professor Kenny becomes the first female physician to take the prestigious seat - which has been held by 23 prior distinguished professors, dating back to 1637.
