Galway Bay fm newsroom - NUI Galway has secured 3.9 million euro to develop new treatments for Multiple Sclerosis.
MS is the most common neurological disease to affect young adults and there are currently 8-thousand people in Ireland suffering from it.
The EU funding will see Principal Investigator of the Multiple Sclerosis Research Lab and Director of the Galway Neuroscience Centre at NUI Galway, Dr. Una Fitzgerald, lead a consortium of researchers across Europe.
The consortium comprising of 15 PhD students - including 5 based at NUI Galway - aims to develop novel devices and treatments for the progressive phase of MS which often results in reduced mobility, increased fatigue and cognitive challenges.
The research programme is a collaboration of the Multiple Sclerosis Research Lab, CÚRAM, and the College of Engineering at NUIG.
