Galway Bay fm newsroom - A researcher at NUI Galway has developed a revolutionary new type of stent for use in heart surgery.
Professor Gerard Wall led an EU-funded project - comprised of scientists and engineers in Ireland and Poland - to produce the novel stent.
It's the first of its kind to use human anti-bodies for cell capture, to avoid activating the patients immune response.
Currently, conventional stents used to re-open arteries can be compromised over time when cells from patient blood grow over the stent surface.
