NUI Galway research finds false black widow spider 230 times more poisonous

From Galway Bay FM newsroom- NUI Galway researchers have found the noble false black widow spider is up to 230 times more poisonous than other native species

The research by scientists at the Ryan Institute, published in the international journal Toxins, explores the spider's rapid spread across Ireland.

The eight-legged insect is originally from the Canary Islands and Madeira, and usually has a bite like a bee-sting.

However Senior author of the study, Dr Michel Dugon, says some people have experienced stronger symptoms:
