The North West region which includes Galway recorded 16% of the country's hate crimes last year
This was the lowest percentage for regions outside of the Dublin area where just under half of all hate related incidents occurred
The Eastern region recorded 18% while the Southern region figure was 17%
Nationally, the number of offences and hate-related incidents increased by 4 per cent to 676 in 2024
Hate crimes recorded last year included victims being punched, slapped and spat at.
Race, followed by nationality and then sexual orientation were the top three motives.
