People are now afraid to "open their mail" due to the increasing pressures of the cost of living crisis.
That's according to Galway West TD Noel Grealish, who's told the Dáil of the fears and worries of some of his constituents.
He said Ireland's middle class are increasingly becoming disillusioned, as they struggle to keep their heads above water but don't qualify for any state supports.
Deputy Grealish pointed out people are expected to pay extortionate rents, but yet can't afford a home and don't quality for social housing or HAP.
Others, he said, are being "crucified" by rising mortgage interest rates.
He told Leo Varadkar all of this is happening while Ireland has a record budget surplus.
