There was no increase in house prices across Galway during the third quarter of this year.

That's according to a new report which examined the sale of the most common home nationwide - three-bed semi detached homes - between June and September.

The Real Estate Alliance report conducted with the Irish Independent found that nationally, the value of most homes froze or declined during the third quarter.

The latest trend is being attributed to a big increase in housing stock from new construction - as well as increased numbers of investment properties being placed on the market by landlords.

In Galway, the cost of a three-bed semi remained static across both the city and county between June and September.

In the city, a three-bed semi was unchanged from the second quarter at €282 thousand - as was the price of a similar property in the county, which now stands at €165 thousand.

Nationally, the largest increase between June and September was in Donegal - where the cost of a three-bed semi rose by over 4 percent to €99 thousand.

While the greatest decrease was recorded in Counties Wexford and Clare - which both saw a drop of 2.7 percent in asking prices.
