Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway’s hopes of securing the naval vessel the LE Aisling as a floating museum have been dashed following news that the ship is due to go to auction next month.

The LE Aisling was decommissioned at Galway docks last year and a number of councillors suggested it could be used as a floating museum for the city.

However, Minister of State at the Dept of Defence, Paul Kehoe said given the age, size and layout of  the vessel, it would be unsuitable for use as a visitor attraction.

According to the Irish Times online, the LÉ Aisling will be put up for auction in Cork on March 23rd.
