Galway Bay fm newsroom - Night time water restrictions on Inis Mór are to be lifted later this week thanks to sufficient rainfall on the island in recent days.
Irish Water has confirmed that restrictions will remain in place on Inis Meain and Inis Oirr for the time being however.
It comes as five water schemes in Galway are experiencing drought - on all three Aran Islands, at Ballinasloe and at Ahascragh.
A further four schemes are at risk of drought at Gort, Kilkerrin-Moylough, Letterfrack and Clifden.
According to Irish Water, levels on the River Suck at Ballinalsoe are still extremely low and have only risen by 100 millimetres recently.
The rainfall at the Athenry Weather station for the month to date is 30 millimetres compared to an average of 79 millimetres in June last year.
