Galway Bay fm newsroom - A series of night time closures will come into effect on the M6 over the coming weeks to facilitate the tie-in of Gort to Tuam motorway with the Galway to Dublin route.
As part of the construction of the new M17/M18 motorway, a new 3 tier motorway interchange is being constructed at Rathmorrissy.
The new interchange is located between the Oranmore and Athenry exits on the M6.
It'll allow traffic travelling from Galway or Dublin to join the new motorway and travel north to Tuam, or south towards Limerick via Gort.
To facilitate the placement of the advanced directional signage, six overhead gantries need to be installed over the M6.
As a result, night time traffic management plans will be put in place.
These traffic management plans involve a diverted route for M6 westbound traffic between Junction 17 Athenry & Junction 19 Oranmore
It'll also involve a combination of temporary lane closures for eastbound traffic along with some rolling closures.
The traffic management plan will be in place nightly between 10pm and 6am Monday to Friday from the 6th of March.
Traffic measures will remain in effect until March 16th.
