New routes in Galway see ten-fold increase in Local Link passengers

New and enhanced routes in Galway have resulted in a ten-fold increase in demand for Local Link services.

Connecting Ireland began in January 2022, with people now using the TFI Local Link services 100,00 times a week in rural Ireland.

That includes 2,185 passengers in Galway in 2024, compared to just 215 at the start of 2022.

The increase is attributed to the introduction or enhancement of key routes, including Gort to Loughrea, Tuam to Galway and Ballinasloe to Castlerea, via Moylough.

2024 is the third year of a five-year implementation plan for Connecting Ireland, with around 60 percent of the proposed services now in place.
