New report shows Athenry is county's most expensive town for property

The most expensive city to buy a house in outside of Dublin is Galway, while the county's most expensive town for property is Athenry

That's according to a report by GeoDirectory, Ireland's address database, which shows the average price for a house in the city comes just short of 300-thousand euro.

The average price for a house in the city is 291-thousand euro - the highest city price outside Dublin.

Just under 2-thousand-500 homes were purchased in Galway in the past year including 816 in the city - with 11.5 per cent of those being new dwellings.

Athenry's the most expensive Galway town included in the report with 101 houses having been purchased at an average cost of 235-thousand euro.

Loughrea is next selling 135 properties with an average price of 170-thousand euro while Tuam saw 227 homes purchased at an average price of 166-thousand euro.

In Clifden, 49 homes were purchased at an average price of 157-thousand euro.

The lowest average price reported for Galway was in Ballinasloe where 191 homes were sold for around 135-thousand euro.
