Galway Bay fm newsroom - A new modular building at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe is set to become operational next week.
The unit provides 14 temporary Covid-19 ED minor injuries rooms with associated support facilities.
It'll be ready for occupation on Monday, with full service to be established on the following Monday, April 26th.
Meanwhile, a contractor will shortly be sought for construction of a new 50-bed ward block, with construction expected to begin in the third quarter of this year.
Speaking to Keith Finnegan on Galway Talks, Galway East TD and Junior Minister Anne Rabbitte said the works on the new modular building have taken longer than they would have liked.
However, she says it's a very welcome development that provides an increased and safer level of service.
