Galway Bay fm newsroom - The first 'Shannon' class lifeboat to be based in the West of Ireland has arrived in Clifden for duty with the RNLI.
The state-of-the-art vessel is the first modern all-weather lifeboat to be propelled by waterjets instead of traditional propellers.
The new 25 knot vessel will replace Clifden RNLI's current 15-knot 'Mersey' class lifeboat - significantly cutting response times for the crew.
Catherine Pryce of Clifden RNLI says crews are currently undergoing training before the vessel can officially enter service.
