Galway Bay fm newsroom - An organisation to promote tourism in the Irish speaking areas of Connemara is being set up under the auspices of Údarás na Gaeltachta.
The organisation is to be known as Cósta Chonamara, with both private commercial concerns and community groups having an involvement.
Cósta Chonamara will be set up as a company in the near future with the objective of boosting tourism in the Gaeltacht areas of west Galway.
The initiative is being promoted by Údarás na Gaeltachta.
The Irish language as well as the culture and heritage associated with it will be highlighted in this Gaeltacht tourism campaign.
Údarás C.E.O. Micheál Ó hÉanaigh says the Cósta Chonamara organisation will make full use of the iconic status of the Connemara brand name and focus on the linguistic uniqueness of the Gaeltacht in attracting visitors.
Most of the Irish speaking areas are along the Wild Atlantic Way and Mr Ó hÉanaigh says that opportunity must be fully used.
Community and private tourism interests will be involved in the process and a full time manager will co-ordinate the Costa Chonamara activities.
