Galway Bay fm newsroom - Anti-dumping barriers will be erected at a litter blackspot off the Headford Road in the coming days.
The measure is being implemented by the County Council following repeated illegal dumping on side roads off the N84 just outside the city boundary.
Following agreement with around 13 landowners in the area, barriers will be put in place to block access to the frequently targetted site which is just off the N84 past McGaugh's Garden Centre.
Meanwhile, the local authority had submitted eight grant applications for clean-up works at other drumping blackspots across the county.
The council executive says the costs of repeated clean-ups can be 'phenomenal.'
Under the new anti-dumping initiative, the local authority is also considering the installation of additional CCTV and the use of drones in a bid to tackle illegal dumping across the county.
