Galway Bay fm newsroom - The N17 between Milltown and Ballindine is closed this morning following a fatal collision overnight.
A man has been killed and another man injured in the crash involving a car and a van at Carrownurlaur around 1.15 this morning.
Emergency services, including fire crews from Mayo and gardaí were alerted around 1.15a.m and rushed to the scene.
The collision involved a car and a van and the driver of the car, who was in his 30s, was killed.
The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where his injuries are described as not life-threatening.
Carrownurlaur had previously been known as an accident blackspot and safety works had been carried out at the location in recent years.
Gardaí are advising motorists that the road between Milltown and Ballindine is closed until a forensic collision investigation can be carried out later this morning.
Traffic travelling south from Mayo will be diverted in Ballindine into Irishtown, Dunmore and Tuam.
Traffic travelling north from Milltown will be diverted into Irishtown and on to Ballindine.
