Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Moycullen Bypass could be open to traffic as soon as October, as works are now 85 percent complete.
Connemara councillors received the update from Derek Pender, Director of Services for Infrastructure and Operations at Galway County Council.
The main works on the long-awaited Moycullen Bypass began in January of this year.
Planning permission for the €35m project, which involves the construction of 4.3km of new carriageway, was granted in 2012.
Derek Pender has confirmed the works are now 85 percent complete, with the entire project due to be finished in the coming months.
He added he is hopeful the road can be opened to traffic by October or November.
Some councillors expressed concern for its design, and asked would there be any remit for adding other access points.
In response Derek Pender said they need to continue to build out the road as it is in the initial design before any further works can happen.
He also gave a commitment that if there was justification for any additional infrastructure it would be explored.
