More than half of Galway primary school pupils in overcrowded classes

Galway Bay fm newsroom - More than half of primary school pupils in Galway are in classes of more than 25.

This is above the European norm of 20 pupils per class and an average of 21 across the developed world.

According to figures from the Department of Education in the Irish Independent, 55 per cent of pupils in the city and 56 per cent in the county are in large classes.

Nationally pupils living on the outskirts of Dublin and in commuter counties such as Kildare and Meath are the worst affected.
