Mixed trend for unemployment in Galway last month

Galway Bay fm newsroom - There was a mixed trend in terms of unemployment figures in Galway last month.

Overall net unemployment figures were down for Galway, however some areas did experience a rise in unemployment.

There are currently just over 10 thousand 200 people out of work in Galway.

During April a total of 65 people came off the Live Register in Galway.

51 people came off the Live Register in the city last month leaving its unemployment figure at just over 5 thousand.

A further 51 people came off the Live Register in Clifden in April, leaving its jobless figure at 659.

Loughrea also saw a decrease in unemployment figures last month with 31 people coming off the Live Register.

There are now just over a thousand people out of work in Loughrea.

Despite a decrease in unemployment in some areas of Galway other areas saw their jobless figure go up.

An extra 48 people joined the Live Register in Tuam last month, bringing it's unemployment figure to almost 1600.

Gort saw an increase of 13 on the Live Register in April, meaning there are now 722 people out of work in the area.

In Ballinasloe an extra 7 people signed on last month, increasing its jobless figure to just over 11 hundred.

Overall there are 10 thousand 244 people out of work in Galway, up slightly on the previous month but down more than 11 per cent on the same period last year.
