Galway Bay fm newsroom - Speed limits on the Old Dublin Road outside Oranmore are set to undergo minor alterations.
The matter was raised at this week's meeting of the Athenry-Oranmore municipal district by Councillor Jim Cuddy.
He noted that an agreement was previously reached on speed limits between Oranbeg and Furey's Cross, but signs had not been erected at the agreed locations.
Along the two kilometre stretch of road, there is currently a mix of 60, 80 and 100 kilometre per hour limits.
Under the suggested minor alterations, the 60 kilometre zone would stretch from Oranbeg roundabout to 240 metres past the water tower - while the 80 kilometre zone would extend 200 metres past Furey's Cross.
The meeting heard that the process will take about three months, and the changes will go before a meeting of the full county council, as well as undergo a public consultation.
Councillor Jim Cuddy says the proposed new signage and limits would reflect what locals living on the road requested during a previous survey.
