Galway Bay fm newsroom - Minister of State at the Department of Health Catherine Byrne has launched GMIT's healthy campus initiative today.
Since its establishment, a working group at the Dublin Road campus, has rolled out several campaigns and initiatives involving staff and students from all schools and function areas.
Campaigns include 'Clean Air' - a 'no Smoking or Vaping' drive across all GMIT Campuses with policy to be rolled out in January 2020.
Othere include a new GMIT social running club for staff and students, an awareness campaign about drugs and alcohol misuse and sexual consent workshops for all first-year students.
There is also a dedicated week of Healthy Campus activities as part of the #First5weeks welcome programme.
Speaking following the launch, Minister Byrne said the drive will greatly improve mental and physical health across the institution for many years to come.
