Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Minister for Local Government says the Government is considering changes to the Local Property Tax system which could address a funding crisis facing Galway County Council.
Minister John Paul Phelan is in the city this morning and is set to meet with County Councillors around now to discuss the situation.
He's already met with City Councillors to discuss a range of issues affecting Galway City, including housing, transport and traffic.
However, ahead of his meeting with County Councillors, Minister Phelan has admitted that it is the County Council that is facing the greater funding issues.
He says a national review of the Local Property Tax is due next year and the Government has designed a system which would provide greater resources to under-funded local authorities.
