Galway Bay fm newsroom - A senior Government Minister has indicated that figures put forward by Noel Grealish in the Dáil yesterday are significantly over-stated.
It's after Deputy Grealish presented figures showing €3.6bn was sent from Ireland to Nigeria in personal remittances in recent years.
Deputy Grealish called for stricter measures on such transfers and questioned if some of the cash was the proceeds of crime.
The figures also revealed that the UK also receives €2.7bn, while a further €1.5bn is sent to Poland.
He was branded a racist by some fellow TDs in the Dáil, while the Immigrant Council of Ireland has described his comments as "shameful."
It follows recent controversy over Deputy Grealish's comments about asylum seekers at a public meeting in Oughterard.
Minister Donohue says the actual figures are "significantly lower" than those suggested by Deputy Grealish in the Dáil yesterday - to hear more tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour...
