Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Minister for Local Government is in the city this morning to discuss a funding crisis facing Galway County Council.
It's long been argued by local politicians that Galway is chronically under-funded compared to other local authorities nationwide - to the tune of several million euro.
Despite having the second biggest geographical area in the country, Galway has the fourth lowest funding per capita.
Roads funding has been raised as a particular issue - with the poor state of the county's road network often used as an example of the need for greater resources.
Junior Minister John Paul Phelan is now in the city this morning to meet with County Councillors to discuss the situation.
Galway East Independent TD and Junior Minister Sean Canney says he expects a commitment from Minister Phelan today - for developments on this story, stay tuned to Galway Bay fm news on the hour...
