Galway Bay fm newsroom – Michael Fitzmaurice is first candidate to be elected in the Roscommon/Galway constituency.
The independent TD was elected with 1672 votes to spare in the first count.
His surplus will now be redistributed in the second count.
Deputy Fitzmaurice is first candidate from any of Galway's three constituencies to be elected to the 33rd Dáil.
