Local MEP Maria Walsh has been appointed to the European Parliament’s Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality.
The Midlands-North West Fine Gael MEP says tackling gender-based violence is her number one priority.
Other priorities include providing supports for female farmers and women in rural areas and supporting the financing of female-founded businesses.
MEP Walsh says it's disappointing that there isn't a dedicated European Commissioner for equality.
