Members of Kurdish community give thanks as fundraiser to repatriate family killed in Galway motorway crash raises over €66,000

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A founding member of the Kurdish Irish Society says he is overwhelmed by the response to a fundraising campaign to repatriate the bodies of a family killed in a car crash in Galway back to Iraq.

More than 66 thousand euro has been raised via a Go Fund me page to repatriate Karzan Sabah and his wife Shahen, as well as their eight month old baby Lina.

The family were among four people who died on the M6 near Ballinasloe last Thursday evening when their car was struck by another vehicle travelling the wrong way down the motorway.

Established by a family friend, the Go Fund Me page raised more than its original target of 40 thousand euro just hours after it was set up yesterday evening.

Speaking to Keith Finnegan on Galway Talks, Philip Phelan of the Kurdish Irish Society in Dublin, whose wife is a cousin to Karzan, says the funds already raised will be more than enough to get Karzan and his family returned to Iraq...
