Galway Bay fm newsroom - Medtronic has confirmed that it will be letting go a number of contingent and temporary workers at its Galway facility over the next four months.
It's a result of the decision to scale down its level of ventilator production.
Medtronic says that last year in response to unprecedented demand due to the COVID-19 global crisis, ventilator production at the Mervue facility was increased five-fold between mid-March and July.
As a result the company increased resources significantly by hiring contingent and temporary workers.
In a statement issued to Galway Bay fm news Medtronic says that after carefully assessing current global demand, it has made the decision to reduce its surge level of ventilator production and this will result in a reduction in its contingent and temporary workers over the next four months.
Medtronic declined to say how many temporary and contingent workers are affected but it's understood it could be up to 250.
The company says it's providing assistance to help affected workers through the transition.
