Galway Bay fm newsroom - A man is being questioned at Mill Street Garda Station following a fatal assault in the city in the early hours of this morning.
The incident occurred at a house at Cardinal Cushing Road in Mervue shortly after 4am.
The deceased, who was aged in his 30's, received medical attention at the scene at Cardinal Cushing road after suffering what are believed to be stab wounds.
He was taken to University Hospital Galway where he was later pronounced dead.
Gardai arrested a man in his mid 60's at the scene and he is currently being detained at Mill Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The scene is preserved for technical examination and the State Pathologist's office has been notified of the incident.
