Man injured in Furbo hit and run remains in critical condition at UHG

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A man seriously injured in a hit and run in Furbo last weekend remains in a critical condition.

Venancio Sousa, aged in his 40's, was struck by a car near Furbo Church at around 8.30pm on Sunday.

The driver failed to remain at the scene and the victim was left lying seriously injured for a considerable time before being discovered the following morning by the owners of a nearby house .

He was rushed to UHG where he remains in intensive care with extensive injuries including damaged organs, shattered pelvis and multiple broken bones.

Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to contact Salthill Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any Garda Station.

Venancio has been living in Ireland for the past number of years but is originally from Portugal.

His sister Marianne has now traveled to Galway to be with her brother.

Speaking to Galway Talks, she said it's a miracle he's still alive but there is huge uncertainty ahead.
