Man who died following city stabbing named locally

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The man who died after being stabbed at a house in Mervue in the early hours of yesterday has been named locally.

39-year-old Christoper McGrath is believed to have been living at the house on Cardinal Cushing Road in Mervue where the incident took place.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Cardinal Cushing Road in Mervue shortly after 4 o'clock on Sunday morning.

A man in his late 30's had been stabbed and was treated at the scene - before being removed to University Hospital Galway where he later died.

A man in his 60's was arrested in connection with the incident - he's being detained at Galway Garda Station.

A post mortem examination is due to take place at UHG.
