Galway Bay fm newsroom - A man in his 50s has died after being hit by a lorry on the M6 motorway near Athenry this morning
The man's car was involved in a single vehicle collision but when he got out of the car he was struck by a HGV
He was fatally injured and his body has been removed from the scene to University Hospital Galway where a post mortem examination will take place
The male lorry driver, also aged in his 50s, was uninjured
A technical examination of the scene at Ballygarraun West is ongoing
The road remains closed with local diversions in place.
It's expected to remain closed until at least 5 this evening
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
