Galway Bay fm newsroom - The majority of Galway's unmarried mothers are in their early 30s.
The latest figures from the CSO reveal that of the 3,500 babies born to parents across Galway last year, over 1000 were born to an unmarried couple.
There was just over 1,700 baby girls and 1,700 baby boys born across the city and county during 2016.
39 mothers were under the age of 20, while over 300 were over the age of 40.
The most popular age for giving birth across Galway is between the ages of 30 and 34.
The CSO Vital Statistics report for 2016 also reveals the number of deaths registered across Galway.
1,180 deaths were registered in the county last year, while a further 342 were registered in the city.
Circulatory diseases are the biggest killer across Galway, followed by cancer.
During 2016, 19 suicides were registered in the city and county - 13 males and 6 females.
