Major overlay works to be carried out on Headford Road

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Major overlay works are to be carried out on the N84 Headford Road next year.

Councillor James Charity says survey works which got underway in recent weeks are being undertaken to determine the extent of the project.

While the ongoing assessment has caused considerable traffic delays, he says the proposed overlay works are a major step forward for the N84.

The Independent councillor believes the project is crucial to ensure the road is passable during flooding.

However, he's warning that the proposed works do not address larger issues with the N84 - including capacity issues.

Councillor Charity says the Government needs to include an upgrade of the road in the Capital Infrastructure Plan.
