Galway Bay fm newsroom - A revolutionary Irish-designed device to generate electricity from ocean wave power has passed gruelling test trials in Galway Bay with flying colours.
Sea Power Ltd has now concluded winter survivability testing of their prototype wave energy device at the Galway Bay Marine and Renewable Energy Test Site.
The project is a collaboration between Sea Power, The Marine Institute in Oranmore, Smartbay Ireland and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.
The passing of winter trials is being heralded as a significant advance for the eight year project to harness the power of waves off Ireland's coast.
CEO of the Marine Institute Peter Heffernan says the device and ocean wave power has enormous potential.
