Galway Bay fm newsroom - There's been a major increase in the number of residential construction projects getting underway across Galway.
The latest figures from the Construction Industry Federation reveal that so far this year, more than 540 housing commencements got underway across the city and county.
In the county, housing construction is up by over 60%, while in the city, the figure has jumped by 20% compared to the same period last year.
Nationally, the CIF says housing construction is up by over a third - with projects expected to surpass 15,000 by year end for the first time since 2008.
