Galway Bay fm newsroom - Two hundred thousand euro in funding has been announced for the reconstruction of Dunkellin Bridge.
The structure collapsed last year while it was undergoing works.
This has resulted in prolonged road closures with locals forced to take alternative routes to school, mass and farmland.
Work recommenced on site today, with the bridge and road to be reopened by the end of September.
The announcement follows a public meeting held yesterday evening in which residents and local representatives called on the council and the OPW to ensure the works would be completed in time for the new school year.
Minister of State and Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon says it's great news for the locals who have been affected since the bridge collapsed last year - for more on this story tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour...
