Mairead Farrell says drastic action needed to break “vicious cycle” of emigration

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway West TD Mairead Farrell says action is needed to break the “vicious cycle” of young people emigrating.

Speaking in the Dáil, she said our construction sector is suffering because young apprentices are leaving over the lack of housing.

And she noted many of the previous generation of tradespeople who emigrated want to return, they can’t – for the same reason.

Sinn Fein Deputy Farrell argued unlike the recession, Government now has plenty of funds to tackle the problem – but more drastic thinking is needed.
